I have my hockey presentation night tonight, but due to a blood test, I can't eat anything and shouldn't drink anything but water after 10pm. Which is not entirely a bad thing because I don't actually feel like socialising tonight. Set INTROVERSION to ON.

I want to go home tonight and write; and then tomorrow I want to do ALL THE PLANTING AND GARDENING.

One assignment, one pinch-hit.

The recip for my assignment hasn't responded to any of her recent gifts, either comment or kudos, so while I think it's kind of rude not to say thank you, at least it's not personal.
Title: as the wyrm turns
Fandom
: Merlin
Characters: Merlin, Gwen
Relationships: Merlin & Gwen
Rating: G
Summary: Magic had laws. His mother had been a lecturer of physics at Oxford for years before her sciatica made the constant standing an agony. Hunith had been the one to teach Merlin that all energy came from somewhere, that there was nothing new under the sun, and that every action had an equal and opposite reaction. She’d also been the one to observe that her son’s abilities and gifts followed those rules...most of the time.
I actually wanted to write a whole lot more to this - Arthur and Morgana and Merlin and Gwen all sitting down to dinner and having a conversation about magic and what it means in the world...

My second genex was a PH I picked up because I liked the recip, and because I could. It's not as brilliant as I'd envisioned it in my head (sometimes your brain does this, you know? And then it's not quite as magnificent as you thought it would be).
Title: stars of hope in dark despair
Fandom
: Rogue One
Characters: Chirrut Îmwe, Baze Malbus, Luke Skywalker
Relationships: Chirrut Îmwe & Luke Skywalker, Chirrut Îmwe/Baze Malbus (background)
Rating: G
Summary: There’s no palm trees, no sand, no watery inlets, no tower – not anymore. Yet Chirrut knows exactly where he is. He can feel it – hope and success in the midst of death and destruction – that this was both the ending and the beginning, like the tale of an ancient snake who endlessly swallowed its tail to represent time unending...
I've had an idea for the story from Luke's POV for some time, and after writing this, I have ides for more Chirrut-and-Baze backstory, but the issue of time and hijacked brain is big right now...

And a recent Captain Hill snippet:
Title: Office Gossip
Fandom
: MCU
Characters: Steve Rogers, Cameron Klein
Relationships: Maria Hill/Steve Rogers
Rating: PG
Summary: “So, I heard that Commander Hill is seeing someone.”

Steve looks sharply up from the missions Maria gave him to sign off. Then he remembers that the person Maria is seeing is him.
This was a snippet that sprang from another fic I wrote a while back - 'go down with your shield or come back upon it' - which featured Steve and Maria negotiating their relationship.

This one was...kind of fun. And silly. But fun, too.

It’s kind of nice to post a humourous Captain Hill ficlet I dug up off the HD last night, forget about it, and then only remember this morning when looking at my works page to discover it has 180 hits, 40 kudos, and 4 comments already.

I am starting to think that the Marriage Equality survey here in Australia will prove to be Australian Evangelicals’ ‘Trump’ moment. The ‘no’ side will win by a narrow margin, but it will be because half the people didn’t respond to the survey, and in the process, the most vicious ‘no’ responders (the 'loud and proud no' side) will have burned bridges beyond repairing for a generation already on the verge of asking, “Where is your God of mercy? We see none of His qualities in you.”

*grieves*

How I know I’m losing weight: my bra cups suddenly don’t fit my breasts. Which makes me feel like I’m walking around with my tits hanging out, never mind that I have two or three layers of clothing over the top.

Tonight, I have a quiet night. I don't even have to cook dinner; I prepped a lamb shoulder last night and stuck it in the slow-cooker this morning. I just have to get the sister to slice the potatoes and toss them in around midday...

He surveys the land before them as the Wakandan plane hovers over the landscape, and Natasha tries to imagine it through his eyes.

The expression on his face is bleak. “And is it safe for them?”

Trick or Treat 2017

thecolourclear: (doctor who: worst rescue ever)
[personal profile] thecolourclear
I've requested fanfic for all, but Tricks and Treats switch. My general likes and dislikes shift depending on the fandom. I might like fast-paced dialogue heavy fic in one (The West Wing) but abhor it in another (His Dark Materials). I make prompt-specific exceptions for non-con. Please keep that in mind for the below prompts:

Doctor Who: Donna, The Silence
ToT: Trick

Donna is a character I have a complicated history with. I loathed her when she aired, but still agreed that she got a terrible ending that erased her entire character arc. On reruns I've come around to her, probably because I know what's coming and that colors how I look at her season. Martha's still my favorite companion, but Donna's now a pretty close second. The Silence are my favorite villains (it was the angels before they were completely ruined) and the first episode with them was superb. Somehow Donna and the Silence have always gone together in my mind, and I'd love to see something explored with that ... something deep and dark and totally smutty. Donna takes on the Silence, but the Silence take Donna ---> literally no holds barred to this prompt. No DNW. Non-con, character death, blood and gore, it's all okay.

IF THAT IS NOT YOUR CUP OF TEA, DO NOT PANIC. Donna is lovely and the Silence are terrifying, so my likes below should help you out - I will love whatever you write!

Likes:
-shadows that go bump in the night
-literally taking place during Halloween
-fearless Donna
-brave Donna
-Donna doesn't need the Doctor
-characters in costume
-things in costumes (or not) that are definitely not human
-the Silence love stealing candy from children during Halloween
-the Silence are the monsters in the dark
-the Silence just need a night to relax
-the Silence play pranks on each other
-nobody coming to the rescue
-alternatively, the worst rescue ever

Good Omens - War, Pepper
ToT: Trick or Treat

Pepper and War are my two favorite non-main characters. I'd love to see them together, in some fashion, but if not the likes below should apply to both of them! I adore the Martin Jarvis audiobook and will probably read this with his voice in my head (if that helps with getting into the characters). For this, I really dislike common understanding amongst enemies (except A/C) or sympathy for the enemy, etc. And as that relates to Pepper and War, I don't want either of them taking pity on them who isn't already on their side. Pepper 'playing' War during a sex rp with a partner would be fun to see (Pepper into BDSM of all/any sorts would be great). War as a constant ravager, even when she's trying not to be, also good. War knowing exactly what she's doing and reveling in it, also good.

I love how the novel breaks the 4th wall, and would love it incorporated in some way.

General likes:
-post-canon
-unhappy endings
-revenge
-standalone scenes with no ties to larger plot
-stymied plots due to the actions of an unrelated character (butterfly affect)
-angels as ghosts, demons as ghosts, everyone's a ghost
-finding things in common with your enemy
-but they're still you're enemy
-and you're definitely still out to get them
-captured damsels who are not in distress and very crass about rescue attempts
-captured damsels who ARE in distress but think they have a way out of it (they don't)
-accidentally summoning of either Horsemen or the Spawn of Satan
-characters appearing in non-humanoid form
-sex scenes gone so very wrong
-any sex scene limited to handcuffs, blindfolds, whipped cream, and/or vibrators
-Breaking of the 4th wall

DNW:
-AU of any kind
-character death (War can have temporary character death) (unless they're all dead, then no death-like incapacitating actions)
-characters coming to some 'understand the enemy and have compassion' moments
-please no War and Pepper as a couple (though feel free to ship them with literally anyone else)
-underage (Pepper only)
-any kink other than outlined in the likes
-Crowley and Aziraphale (except in passing or to offer up some sidebar commentary/narration) (actually the two of them arguing about how a story happened would likely be hilarious and if you want to do it, go for it, but the point is I don't want them IN the story with Pepper and/or War)

Saga - Petrichor
Tot: Treat

I really would like to see Petrichor gets some lovin' (robot prince or otherwise). Poor girl deserves it. I would like the basic theme of canon kept in place (no AU plot deviations), but don't worry about fitting it into the canon timeline.

General Likes:
-Happy endings
-a story that doesn't take itself too seriously
-PWP
-characters in costume
-mistaken identities*
-Petrichor acting sweet around Hazel
-Petrichor snarking the hell off everyone but Hazel
-Petrichor grumbling about how much she hates something but she gives in and finds she actual is enjoying herself
-Anything set inside the treeship
-crazy plot with supernatural elements (maybe they pass by a planet and there are ghosts, or they land and things are covered in mist and basically the start of every horror movie ever)

DNW:
-Character death
-transphobic comments/characters
-*non-con (for the purposes of 'mistaken identities' you can assume that the sex is consensual across identities), blood-play, race play (as it would apply to the comic)

Finally, I read this serially, so feel free to incorporate anything character-wise we learn into this. Unless Petrichor dies and then just pretend that never ever happened and let me live my life in peaceful denial.

The Decoy Bride - any
ToT: Treat

I adore this movie. I'm not sure how I first found it to watch, but it's amazing and in my permanent Netflix queue. You could pick any of the characters and do anything with them (including ship them with anyone, even unhappily) and I would be happy. I would like it set on the island.

General likes for this:
-unreliable narrator (I feel this has to be a given)
-plot twists happening due to geography and/or weather
-ambiguous endings
-the haunted toilet really being haunted
-other things haunted that are not the toilet and manifest in unusual ways
-the characters falling befoul of some ancient law on the island
-said law having supernatural roots
-said supernatural roots then manifesting
-especially zombies
-a lack of supplies on the island making life difficult
-interrupted sex scenes (especially if supernatural elements cause it) (or if said sex act triggers the ancient law)

DNW:
-non-con
-major character death (temporary character death is okay)
-graphic depictions of violence (blood, gore, etc)

Also, I have a headache, although that might be from consumption of too much alcohol.

We lost the grand final, but it took us half the game to find out feet and our opponents came out the gate swinging. (Plus, I'm not entirely sure they didn't stack their team with a couple of players from higher grades, but eh. What can you do? The organiser has known when the Grand final games were going to be played for at least a month now, but we only got the update for times on Wednesday.)

Friday night and Saturday were great - a weekend away with the women from church. I had some good conversations, including one with the speaker. (She's in a situation much like my mother's was thirty years ago, and I wanted to let her know that I appreciated her candour, but also to reassure her that her children are watching her, loving her, and appreciating her - that shit happens, but we grew up and deal with it (some better than others).

I got all my assignments in, now there's only [community profile] crossovering until [community profile] trickortreatex and [community profile] yuletide.

Hello dear Trick-or-Treat author!

This is my first year in ToT, so this letter may not be what you're expecting. I've listed the fandom and characters we've matched on, then added relationships (optional), and prompts (also optional). They're really just places for you to start - something to catch your eye, perhaps, or something to challenge you.

I don't mind if it's a trick or a treat, take it light and fluffy, or take it dark - just keep in mind that while I don't mind a good dark/edgy story, I like there to be a little leavening at the end, a little hope!

In these canons, I'd prefer the story didn't have a specific Halloween slant, especially given that Rogue One, Pacific Rim, Merlin, and Stargate Atlantis happen in canon situations where Halloween would likely be less celebrated. (Also: I'm Australian: Halloween is becoming more popular here, but it's not a patch on the megaholiday status in the US.)

letter: complete )

Please note: I would also be good with any prompts from previous exchanges that match the parameters of this exchange. You can find my signups/letters at dear+fic+writer+letters if you're so inclined.

Ultimately, if none of these prompts take your fancy, then don't worry. Simply write the characters and fandom we matched on, and it's all good!

Hello, Trick or Treat writer!

And thank you in advance for whatever you decide to write. Enjoy yourself and I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever you write.

Things that I like! Fluff, a little bit of romance, silliness! Spooky things, ranging from 'eeek! awww' to 'i think my heart just ripped itself out of my chest to escape o.o'. Which is weird because I don't like horror movies? But halloween stuff is not entirely the same I've found. I love world-building! Explorations of how and why things work are always fun.

I covered my DNWs in the signup, but so they're also here: child abuse, gore, incest (I don't think I have any fandoms that could come up in, but it is a DNW so) and vore (pokemon ghosts are creepy and it could come up, but please don't be explicit if you go that route).

And to prevent this taking up an entire page/in case you don't want too much detail, the rest will be below the cut.

Ssssh, ignore this ghost cleverly disguised by a paper bag )

The [community profile] genex stories don't seem to be doing too well on the hits-and-kudos front right now, so I thought I'd start at the backend and work my way up to the front, in reverse of the usual procedure.

But there are some good stories in there - beautifully written, well-characterised, enjoyable stories for canons which I know but don't usually participate in.

Summary:

Four women, one cause, and in the end they might just save the world.

My note: The best thing about this fic? Is that the women aren't girly for the sake of being girly; they're in-character, female and feminine, while being practical, frank, and a little bit wry/sarcastic. (The end exchange between Maria and Jane, where Jane modifies her answer? I love that. Because Jane so would! I have adulted muchly this weekend.

Friday night, I made bechamel sauce and assembled a lasagne. Two, actually. I also adjusted/modified/fixed my exchange fics for this weekend, and they'll do, although I don't think they're as good as the two for Rarepairings.

Saturday morning, I picked kumquats off someone's tree by arrangement. She took some seed potatoes, planting garlic, and a pumpkin in exchange, and then I headed out to swap the last of the winter produce (fennel and winter greens and another pumpkin, seed potatoes and planting garlic and suchlike) for honeycomb and eggs and quite a few seedlings. So far as I'm concerned, I came out a winner!

Back in the garden, I 'bagged' the fruit trees against fruit fly, and deep-watered the newer trees that haven't been doing quite so well. I arranged to rent chickens from Rent-A-Chook (a program that allows you to try keeping chickens in your backyard) and I expect they'll call in the next couple of weeks to arrange for delivery and set up and explanation. We'll see how they do as the weather warms up!

I also measured up a section of the house for a couple of slimline water tanks to hold water when we start getting rain again. (It's been a crazily dry winter, which has been nice on the 'not getting stabbed in the eye by an umbrella on the train' front, but not so great on the 'persuading things to grow' front.) Eventually, I'd like to run our toilet and our washing machine through the rainwater tanks, but right now, I'm settling for just the garden...

This morning I played in my team's hockey finals, and assisted in the sole goal scored during the game. It was a pretty amazing game; we definitely brought our best play this week. People were doing all the right stuff, things came together, and we won! We really needed things to come together, though - the team we played against were tough stuff, and next week's team will be, once again, a hard game.

On the plus side, my body doesn't ache as badly as it did last weekend. Now I just have to hold it all together to next weekend. (You should have seen the face my sister made when she discovered we'd made it through to the finals; she's 'eh' on winning/losing, but since she gets to listen to me complain about how my body creaks, she has a vested interest in me not playing.

Then I came home, washed the kumquats and made kumquat brandy and kumquat whiskey. There's still enough kumquats to make some spiced preserves, though, so I might have to get to that tomorrow.

And now I'm going to angst over my nominations for Yuletide. Only three slots for nominations? WHERE'S THE LOVE?!?
